About Our Practice

Drs. Hicken, Cranley, & Taylor, P.A. was founded in 1970 as a hospital-based anatomic and clinical pathology practice. In 2005, HCT Pathology Services was separately established to provide dermatopathology and surgical pathology services to local physicians practicing in an outpatient setting.

We are the largest and most academically diverse private practice pathology group in the state of Maryland, consisting of 26 pathologists with regional coverage supporting numerous local hospitals including Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Northwest Hospital Center, Grace Medical Center, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center, St. Agnes Hospital, Carroll Hospital Center, ChristianaCare at Union Hospital of Cecil County, Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, and Harford Memorial Hospital, Mount Washing Pediatric Hospital, and University of Maryland Shore Regional Health at Easton Hospital and Chester River Hospital).

Academic Expertise

Our practice has a long-standing history of attracting the best and brightest pathologists with a reputation for providing the highest caliber diagnostic services. Many have been recruited from respected academic institutions and have unique experience. All of our pathologists are board-certified by the American Board of Pathology. HCT offers diverse subspecialty expertise including dermatopathology, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, urologic, hematologic, pediatric, orthopedic, soft tissue, and cytologic pathology. And unlike many commercial laboratories, our hospital-based pathologists have extensive experience with more complex, challenging and diverse cases.

Local Personalized Service

As local pathologists, we are readily available by telephone, email, and in person for academic support and case discussion. Upon request, we can arrange for one-on-one convenient microscopic review of cases. Many of our pathologists may already be known to your practice through local hospital affiliations. Our involvement with your outpatient biopsies can be extremely valuable when those patients are referred to local hospitals that we serve for follow-up definitive procedures. Furthermore, we take pride in the fact that we are your local private practice colleagues, friends, and neighbors. We dedicate our careers to supporting the local institutions critical to your practice and community, both professionally and personally.

Convenience

Our office and support staff are readily available and immediately responsive to attend to all needs and special requests of our contributing offices. Report distribution is customized for each individual contributor, as are supply distribution, specimen retrieval, and courier services. Rapid results and convenient report retrieval are enhanced with internet access and PDF-formatted reports for interfacing with electronic medical record systems.
