About Our Practice
With a broad range of generalists and specialists, HCT combines a depth of expertise that supports an academic environment along with the operational experience from the private practice setting. As a physician-owned practice, we respect the privilege and responsibility of providing pathology services to our colleagues within the various medical communities we serve.
Our practice has a long-standing history of attracting the best and brightest pathologists with a reputation for providing the highest caliber diagnostic services. We have been able to recruit candidates from respected academic institutions who possess unique professional experience. All of our pathologists are board-certified by the American Board of Pathology. HCT offers a spectrum of subspecialty expertise including dermatopathology, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, urologic, hematologic, pediatric, orthopedic, soft tissue and cytologic pathology. Our pathologists have extensive experience with more complex and challenging cases.
HCT recognizes the need to deliver quality assurance by means of an efficient workflow. Challenging cases are often reviewed by multiple members of the group to achieve a consistent diagnosis. Outside consultations with other academic centers are utilized for very unusual or particularly problematic cases.
Our goal to provide quality pathology services with the level of expertise for our colleagues is reinforced by our core values of quality, teamwork, trust, integrity and equality. We incorporate this approach in our partnering relationships with fellow pathologists, the medical staff and hospitals.
Drs. Hicken, Cranley, & Taylor, P.A. was founded in 1970 as a hospital-based anatomic and clinical pathology practice. In 2005, HCT Pathology Services was separately established to provide dermatopathology and surgical pathology services to local physicians practicing in an outpatient setting.
We are the largest and most academically diverse private practice pathology group in the state of Maryland, consisting of 24 pathologists with regional coverage that includes 7 local hospitals (Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Northwest Hospital Center, St. Agnes Hospital, Carroll Hospital Center, Montgomery General Hospital, Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and Harford Memorial Hospital). With a diverse range of generalists and specialists, HCT combines a depth of expertise often found only in an academic setting, with the efficiency and personalized service of a private practice.
